Space Travel

In my Applied and Environmental Microbiology class, we were discussing space bacteria which led to the discussion on space travel.

My teacher asked us, "If you had the chance, would you travel to Mars?" I did not raise my hand. Why?

Time
She told us that on average, it takes 3 years to get there! (That's a minimum of 6 years of your life you would have to dedicate to this trip!) No, thank you.

Psychological Reasons
I would have to be in a spacecraft with the same people for 6 years straight -_- There aren't many people I can stand to be around for a couple of hours, let alone a few minutes. There's no way I could do that to myself or them. Also, I get antsy easily. I'm sure I would be extremely bored and go into depression or something.

Other random things I learned that day...

  • The guest lecturer told us that the toilet on the spacecraft costs $19 million. (If you're a female, you have to buy an adapter to hook up to the hose for urinating.)
  • It costs about $5,000 per pound of weight deployed. (The urine goes into the tube because the water from it is recycled.)
Would you go to Mars if you had the chance?

Xanga to Blogger

After having a Xanga for 6 years (2002-2008), I decided to try something new.

I dubbed this "Spawn of Susan" because it reminds me of S.O.S. and the saying, "Spawn of Satan" (not saying that my mom is the devil). There are plenty of times I feel I need saving. There are also times when I can be extremely devious. mwahahahaha
